Hoop Hysteria!
24 November 2024Actually, so successful has this particular generation of Conlethian basketball players been, that ‘as expected’ is probably more of an accurate way to describe our reaction to the U19 Boys powering through the Ireland East B Semifinal against Coolmine CC. Since their glorious but Covid-cancelled run to the Finals in First Year, we have grown accustomed to continued success, and sometimes that can be a heavy burden to bear. Not that you can tell from the play of these boys! St. Conleth’s Basketball has consistently been winning trophies for years now, a tremendous tribute to coaches Sean Ingle and Peter Gahan. No other school our size has established and maintained such a basketball pedigree, so quickly. And this year, once again, the programme has played ‘above the rim’. Once again, we were led by the starting five: James and Fionán, ‘The Twin Powers’; Enda ‘Crucial’ Crowley; John ‘Mountain Man’ Engmann and Joe ‘Killah’ Kelleher, but the bench provided the vocal, moral support and stepped up when they stepped in. An East Final awaits us in a couple of weeks, and in the New Year, there will be another All-Ireland run!
