Ye Auld Enemy…

24 January 2025

… and A New Power! Gone are the days when St. Conleth’s hockey teams could sneak up on the overconfident competition and deliver the shocking upset: we are now a recognised hockey ‘power’, ourselves. Ms. Speller, in a few short years, has established St. Conleth’s as a perennial contender for bling in Leinster… and we are no longer talking of mere ‘plates’ and the other, lighter, flimsier trophy shelf booty. This is the Leinster Cup! You can drink Prosecco out of it! Ms. Speller has been aided by an assortment of excellent coaches: either our own alumnae or equally effective ‘bought-in’ male coaches with names taken straight from the Domesday Book. Of course, due to our numbers, it is still remarkable that we can even play with the big girls. Case in point: this week’s match vs. St. Columba’s, a team we have been facing off against, in one way or another, since 1169 A.D.. Our brave and talented Senior Team fought to a 0-0 full-time draw in the first round of the Leinster Cup, only to lose in the penalty shootout. But well done on another inspiring performance to Capt. Juliet Donnelly, goalie standout Lucy McGoldrick and the whole team!
