TYs: The End of the Yellow Brick Road!

21 May 2025

Transition Year is a long and winding road, and eventually it does lead back home but it is the various stops along the way that make it such a special and formative year. Our TYs took their first steps in September, most memorably off a pier in Carlingford, and after many victories, mishaps and adventures, the last leg of the journey was completed on yellow brick last night, as they put on a brilliant version of the ‘The Wizard of Oz’. In some ways, the Wizard of TY, Mr. Trenier also completed a journey: from the days of his youth spent chasing sheep amongst the drumlins of Cavan, through his early years as TY Co-Ordinator at St. Conleth’s, his academically impressive but craic-free sabbatical at another institute and, now, his triumphant return. And, of course, the creative team of Ms. Fay (music), Mr. Gallagher (words), Ms. O’Dualing (movements), Mr. O’Neill (roadie) and Ms. McGuinness (make-up) have also been on this journey, doing wonders for the TYs in their creative, professional capacities. But the journey, and especially this culminating tour-de-force was all down to the boys and girls in TY, themselves. They really put their shoulder to the wheel (sorry, Harry!) and pulled off a year and a night to remember!
