The Last Waltz
19 August 2025Before we enthusiastically shift into ‘back-to-school’ mode, we best wrap up some important business from last term. Every year, in early summer, we gather as a school for our last assembly, where all our ‘undergraduate’ awards are given out and the House Champion is announced. We displayed for you our award-winners in an earlier article and you can get a sense of the house shenanigans in the video below (as well as one last classy piano piece by Lochlann Hannon). But this year, the last assembly was especially poignant as we bid farewell to two of our most beloved leaders and teachers: Principal Donal O’Dulaing and Mr. Seamus Gallagher. The students, themselves, expressed so well the immense gratitude we all feel for the contributions these two Conlethian giants made over the years, so we will let you listen for yourselves, but let us just report what one alumnus said when he heard of the retirements: when he thought of his time at St. Conleth’s, it was the kind faces, words and deeds of these two men that immediately came to mind, and they still resonate there for him, as they will for all of us, for years to come.
