Roysh… Love the GAA!

16 April 2024

With so many culchies on the staff, it was inevitable that St. Conleth’s would develop a GAA culture. You cannot have a staffroom full of Tipp hurling chat (mostly morose, lately) and the exhortations of an enthusiastic supporter of Nobber Clobber football, without it filtering through to the student population. And of course, Mr. O’Dualing, himself, will show you his lock-screen/wallpaper/favourite photos of himself and the Sam from 2020, 2019, 2018… whenever you ask (or even if you don’t). So, we have been fielding a girls GAA team these last few years with a great sense of excitement, despite the origin of the team jerseys. And, lately, this enthusiasm for the native sport has been spreading throughout the private school scene, culminating in a tournament, The Scoop Cup, hosted by Alexandra College, no less! And our Second Year girls did us proud, losing narrowly to the hosts, 6:3 – 5:3, in a great team performance, showing determination and spirit. They just tired towards the end, not surprisingly after three days in Killary!
