ROAR!
18 April 2026On a glorious, historic day, St. Conleth’s was in full voice, backing Gav Maguire and the SCT as they won the Leinster McMullen Shield, 24-21, over Enniscorthy in a brilliant match before stands filled with our students, staff, parents and alumni. At our recent Past Pupils Union Dinner, stories of glory days of old were wheeled out, and with good reason, as the Classes of 2016, 1996 and 1986 had seasons to remember of their own, but one particular alumnus (Class of 2000) will have a more recent tale to tell. Yes, Gav Maguire and the lads just reminded us all that St. Conleth’s is still… A RUGBY SCHOOL! There were many key moments… Cian McMunn’s precise and gutsy kicking… stylish tries by Patrick Gore-Grimes and Noah Dwan… the beastly one by Rian Wickham… never mind the gutsy defence when the second half brought the wind, rain and inevitable yellow-belly fightback. Overall, it was a complete team victory and we must also congratulate Coach Daniel Stack and all the players, who stuck it out, during some trying times. It was a victory that takes its rightful place alongside the greatest triumphs in St. Conleth’s Sports History… several of which, Gav has had a hand in!
Warning: some enthusiastic but ‘colourful’ language by an interviewee!
