Champion of Champions!30 October 2023
St. Conleth’s has a long and proud association with the sport of sailing (including an Olympian!) and it looks like we are now once again ruling the waves, with the wind at our backs! Last year, St. Conleth’s won the Irish Schools Team Championship (and the biggest trophy we have ever seen!) but the boys were not satisfied to retire to the clubhouse, mend sails and tell tall tales… they got right back on the water! Now two of that glorious team have made a notch even higher up on the mast: Sixth Years Russell Bolger and Louis McGovern won the Junior Champions’ Cup 2023 in Schull Harbour over the weekend. The event is organised by Irish Sailing and ‘by invitation only’ so the boys (representing RSGYC) were competing against the best in the land… and our heroic helmsmen came out on top!
We see the boys celebrating their win in situ. Below are more snaps from the competition as well as a couple as they set off on their adventure from Clyde Road. They are seen under the Junior Infants banner before heading off… quite apt as they were the first Junior infants in St. Conleth’s. How far they have come!
