Art… Worked!
2 October 2024It was an evening to remember, as the Conlethian creatives, and their many fans, gathered to celebrate our 85th birthday with Artworks, a multi-storey, multi-media tribute to our artistic legacy. The art works of both professional and talented amateur alumni were on display, as well as those of staff and current students, but the greatest ‘art workers’ of all were Louise Halpin and Orla Mellon, who somehow put this all together with a minimum of fuss and complaint but a whole lot of style and substance. It was also the grand premier of our latest quinquennial, with the two Charleses (Crimmins and Latvis) somehow handing out their sizeable but sleek tomes with one hand, while consistently quaffing the complimentaries with the other. Lucy McGuinness provided some aural accompaniment for the visual displays, once again organising some of our incredibly talented musical youth. And, of course, it was left to CEO Tony Kilcommons to make the speeches (and sign the cheques), accomplishing both with an unerring sense of mood, timing and good will. After attending many of these events over the years, and even remembering quite a few of them, we would have to say that it was one of our finest nights and it left one with an immense sense of pride at being a part of this Conlethian community!
