King James finished second to the usurper Billy Boy at the Battle of the Boyne and St. Conleth’s finished second to St. Andrew’s at the Leinster History Teachers Table Quiz. Obviously life (and history) are not fair! We nevertheless enthusiastically applaud our History Boys (and Girl) [Rian Boyle, Daniel Gilligan, Philip O’Hanrahan and Eavan O’Riada] for taking a lead over thirty teams of the best History students in the province and holding it until the very last round, where they were stumped by a question on English history (The year of the Jarrow March?) and finished second by a mere, solitary, minuscule point. Great camaraderie was shown by all the participants and there were no hard feelings between the schools… and if there were, we will soothe them with our upcoming 1916 Centenary celebrations!
