The setting was the historic beauty of Avondale House where Charles Stewart Parnell once amorously chased Kitty O’Shea through the woods and now Tony Barry wanders, taking melancholic photos of the misty vistas. When not trying to catch the woodland sprites with his Kodachrome, Tony helped Mr. Keenan organise the young Conlethian Cross Country runners into teams and whatever system they used certainly worked! Third Year noted Dublin hurler Craig Davis, enjoying the sensation of being on grass without having some thug from Wexford dragging him down, sped away and won the Junior Race outright as an individual. First Years Dylan Alvez and Niall O’Gorman finished 5th and 10th respectively, powering the Minors to a 5th Place Team Finish. These results are all the more impressive considering the field of over 100 runners! Unfortunately, our big threat for the Senior prize, Rory Sweeney, had to pull out due to a sore hamstring, but he enjoyed rooting the team on. Below you see Craig and the team warming up, as well as some of those impressive pics of Tony’s, thanks in large part to the skills learned during the TY photography class.
